About The IHMA Congress
Global Port & Marine Operations 2010, builds on the tradition of hosting the Congress at strategically significant locations by taking place in Perth, Western Australia. Western Australia is Australias largest State and offers an extraordinary tourist experience in addition to a superbly organised Congress.
At 2,525,500 sq km, Western Australia is about the same size as Western Europe. With eight ports along 12,500 km of coastline, Western Australia collectively handles almost half of Australias exports. Nearly 99% of Australias exports and imports are moved by ship and Western Australias ports provide a critical link to the global market place.
The biennial IHMA Congress provides a unique forum in which formal Association meetings are combined with a conference and an exhibition - displaying equipment, services and technical developments from throughout the port and harbour sector.
Global Port and Marine Operations 2010, the 7th IHMA Congress will not only bring together IHMA members, but will also gather other key decision makers from across the entire international maritime industry.

History of the IHMA Congress
The 1st IHMA Congress, Heading for the 21st Century, was hosted by the Port Management of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and took place between 24-30 May 1998
The 2nd IHMA Congress, Professionalism in Ports, was hosted by Dubai Ports Authority, United Arab Emirates, and took place between 28 April and 3 May 2000.
The 3rd IHMA Congress, Port Safety - An increasing challenge, was hosted by the National Ports Authority of South Africa and took place between 13 and 17 May 2002.
An essential awareness briefing on Port Maritime Security was held in London on 10-11 February 2003
The 4th IHMA Congress, Port Safety and Security - Turning Theory into Operational Reality was hosted by Hansestadt Bremisches Hafenamt, in Bremen, Germany, and took place between 23rd and 28th May 2004.
The 5th IHMA Congress, Safety, Security and the Environment... What Next? was hosted by the Malta Maritime Authority, and took place between 3rd and 7th April 2006.
The 6th IHMA Congress, Ports of the Future meeting the challenge, was hosted by the Maritime Administration of the Port of St Petersburg, and took place between 12th and 16th May 2008.
