About IHMA Congress
The biennial IHMA Congress provides a unique forum in which formal Association meetings are combined with a conference and an exhibition - displaying equipment, services and technical developments from throughout the port and harbour sector.
The 8th IHMA Congress, Global Port & Marine Operations 2012, builds on the tradition of hosting the Congress at strategically significant locations by taking place in Cork , Ireland.
The 2012 Congress will not only bring together IHMA members, but will also gather other key decision makers from across the entire international maritime industry.
The Congress will feature a whole host of networking events including the Official Welcome Reception and the Gala Dinner.
Did you miss the 2010 IHMA Congress in Perth, Western Australia?
The 7th biennial International Harbour Master Association Congress in Perth,Western Australia, one of the world's most remote cities saw a record number of seafaring expects, port executives and maritime authorities from across the world gather to discuss the issue of sustainability and future problems facing ports.
A record 250 delegates attended the week-long event. It is the first time the event has been held in the Asia Pacific region. Retired Fremantle harbour master Eric Atkinson was a major force in moving the event to Western Australia.
WA transport minister Simon OBrien officially opened the congress exhibition and again joined attendees at the end onboard the Leeuwin II for a tour of Fremantles Inner Harbour.
Attendees were given the chance to enjoy local hospitality including fauna from Caversham Wildlife Park, a traditional corroboree performance and an Australian dinner at Frasers Restaurant complete with prawns and kangaroo on the BBQ.

History of the IHMA Congress:
The 1st IHMA Congress, Heading for the 21st Century, was hosted by the Port Management of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and took place between 24-30 May 1998
The 2nd IHMA Congress, Professionalism in Ports, was hosted by Dubai Ports Authority, United Arab Emirates, and took place between 28 April and 3 May 2000.
The 3rd IHMA Congress, Port Safety - An increasing challenge, was hosted by the National Ports Authority of South Africa and took place between 13 and 17 May 2002.
An essential awareness briefing on Port Maritime Security was held in London on 10-11 February 2003
The 4th IHMA Congress, Port Safety and Security - Turning Theory into Operational Reality was hosted by Hansestadt Bremisches Hafenamt, in Bremen, Germany, and took place between 23rd and 28th May 2004.
The 5th IHMA Congress, Safety, Security and the Environment... What Next? was hosted by the Malta Maritime Authority, and took place between 3rd and 7th April 2006.
The 6th IHMA Congress, Ports of the Future meeting the challenge, was hosted by the Maritime Administration of the Port of St Petersburg, and took place between 12th and 16th May 2008.
The 7th IHMA Congress, Global Ports & Marine Operations, Sustainability: Fact or Fiction ?, was held in Perth, Western Australia and took place on 19-23 April 2010.
